This is what I was told by the owner, is a 1953 Kay model K-159 Deluxe. I have no idea how he determined the year as I don’t see any serial numbers. Anyway. I could only find a few online that have already sold. This one is in great shape and cool as heck. Everything is in great working order. I plugged it in and it has an on off switch for the tone control so you can set it where you want and then switch it to that setting or leave it off and it is a regular tone control. (The switch IS original, some had it and some didn’t) It has the original tone and volume knobs and they work smoothly with no crackling. The tone works in the opposite direction than a regular guitar, I have had others that work this same way. The tone doesn’t have much sweep as you turn it down and cuts the highs at the most end of the sweep. It has Kluson tuners and he said he just put on a new set of strings. I have never had one of these models so I cant elaborate much on it. Do your own homework. I couldn’t find very many like this and all the ones I did find are already sold and the last one went for $699 on here. The only thing I can see that has been done to it was a plate was added to the back to hold it on a stand while onstage and he said he pulled that off a while back. It belonged to the grandfather of the fellow that traded it in. Oh and at the end of the fingerboard there are two brass screws holding it down as opposed to the other brads on the rest of the board, other than that it works and sounds great. It has its original chipboard case in ok shape but far from mint.
